Andrew Turner is one of London’s most well-established and respected chefs. He started his training in France after leaving catering college at the age of 18 before returning to England as an accomplished chef. He then went on to work with some of the world’s most well known and talked about chefs including Albert Roux and Anton Edelmann.

Having learnt from the masters, Andrew then went on to create his own new style which he has mastered and made his own, ‘the grazing concept’. Andrew has won awards at his previous restaurant, 1837 at Browns Hotel in Mayfair for his talents including Time Out restaurant of the year 2001, Voyager restaurant of the year 2001, 1999 – 2004, 4 rosette AA rating to name but a few.

1880 at The Bentley

London’s new opulent hotel, The Bentley, a lavish palazzo opened in October 2003 nestled away in the heart of Kensington, is excited to welcome Andrew Turner as Head Executive Chef to the ‘New York’ inspired restaurant ‘1880’. 1880 has been described as one of London’s most opulent and decadent fine dining restaurants.

Andrew describes his cooking as Contemporary European. "A deconstruction of classic food followed by a reconstruction of those same ingredients, but in a contemporary style." A protégé of Albert Roux, with whom he first worked at Hanbury Manor, Andrew acknowledges Roux’s influence both in the culinary and restaurant management fields.

His now famous grazing menus have injected new life into the often-tired world of dining in a hotel restaurant, allowing diners to sample from six, seven, eight and nine smaller grazing dishes from the current à la carte menu. Since Andrew’s appointment at 1880, he has always worked closely with the head sommelier, Patrick Salles, carefully marrying the wine and food menus.

Throughout his career Andrew has consistently employed his culinary skills to raise funds for charity and also for friends or colleagues struck by tragedy. In 2000 Andrew was responsible for arranging a meal for 190 people at The Berkeley Hotel working with 19 chefs including Pierre Koffman, Philip Howard, Mark Edwards, Pascal Aussignac, Albert Roux and Giorgio Locatelli, raising funds for the Leukaemia unit at Hammersmith Hospital. This has now become an annual event.

Andrew’s television appearances include appearing several times on The Saturday Kitchen Show, Ainsley’s Gourmet Express and Yes Chef. He also appears on the radio frequently airing his views about current food related issues.
